Where: Great Frames, 241 High Street, Northcote
When: From 5th to 18th August 2019
‘Fragments of culture…’ is the result of a collaboration between Great Frames and Katherine Marmaras. Great Frames provided readymade frames setting the parameters for Katherine to work within. Katherine has then collated, abstracted and transformed items from her vast collection of remnant wallpapers and other decorative papers to create new works to fit within these set parameters. Great Frames then came up with the cheeky titles for each artwork…
Through the collage of familiar repurposed materials and mixed media, Katherine examines how culture influences our domestic surroundings and interiors by evoking childhood memories and transporting us to a place or moment in the past which through the passage of time may be real or imagined.
Katherine Marmaras is a Melbourne based multidisciplinary artist whose practice includes printmaking, collage, ceramics, drawing and textiles which she utilises to explore the notion that art may be purely decorative.
