Great Frames, 241 High Street, Northcote (5th to 18th August 2019)
‘Fragments of culture…’ is the result of a collaboration between Great Frames and Katherine Marmaras. Great Frames provided readymade frames setting the parameters for Katherine to work within. Katherine has then collated, abstracted and transformed items from her vast collection of remnant wallpapers and other decorative papers to create new works to fit within these set parameters. Great Frames then came up with the cheeky titles for each artwork…
Through the collage of familiar repurposed materials and mixed media, Katherine examines how culture influences our domestic surroundings and interiors by evoking childhood memories and transporting us to a place or moment in the past which through the passage of time may be real or imagined.
Great Frames is situated in the heart of the creative hub of High Street, Northcote. Born from the idea of offering personalised customer service for custom framing and providing an alternative place to purchase art. They stock a thoughtfully curated range of artworks by local and emerging artists; and offer personal consultations for customers searching for unique art to suit all styles and budgets.
