Katherine Marmaras is a Melbourne based multidisciplinary artist whose practice includes printmaking, ceramics, drawing and textiles. Katherine is largely influenced by printmaking processes which she uses to create works which explore the notion that art may be purely decorative.
Patterns, motifs and textures found in nature, architecture, interiors and textiles constantly inform her work. Her inspiration comes from found images and photographs taken; and from her vast collection of natural ephemera and objects.
Intrinsically and instinctively motivated, she abstracts colours, patterns and motifs found in nature, architecture, interiors and textiles creating works that are layered with textures and random marks; juxtaposing decoration and art.
Katherine’s works are considered and aim to evoke a sense of calm inviting the viewer to contemplate and reflect; exploring the notion that art may be purely decorative.
